Shelley Buchinger received her M.Sc. degree in mathematics in 1999, in Education for Computer Science Management and Mathematics in 2008 and her Ph.D. (Dr.techn.) on Quality of Experience (QoE) for Mobile TV in February 2010, all three from the University of Vienna. In the frame of the Erasmus programme she moved to Rome during her first master studies where she decided to stay for five years gaining experience in industry. Currently, she is engaged as post-doc researcher at the department of Distributed and Multimedia Systems, University of Vienna where she is focusing her research on QoE, Mobile Multimedia, user-generated content, hybrid quality models, patching schemes for Video on Demand and media analysis for medical applications.
She is the leader of international third party funded research projects such as QUASSUMM and HAPQNET, is contributing to the CACMTV project and is involved in the EU-FP7 Network of Excellence Euro-NF. Altogether, she is currently managing more than seven research collaborators working in the area of QoE.
Her publication activities range from high quality journal and conference contributions (TOMCCAP journal, impact factor: 2.465, ACM Multimedia 2010) to innovative workshop contributions and demonstrations. In 2008 she received the EuroITV’08 Best PhD Award for her contribution on QoE of Mobile Multimedia Services. In 2010, she was chair of the QoEMCS workshop, and now she is acting as poster and short paper chair at the EuroITV 2011. Since January 2010 she is involved in the renowned Video Quality Experts Group (VQEG) where she is a hybrid model subgroup chair of the Joint Effort Group. Furthermore, she acted as reviewer for several events, acted as TPC member of the Perform 2010 and was involved in the organization of the Perform 2010 and IWSOS 2008 workshops.
Her activities comprise interdisciplinary work with researchers from mass media and communication science, film school, medical university of Vienna and the veterinary medicine.
